The butt plug is held by 20 brass headed tacks, about 5 are missing. This is a plain horn, no inscriptions, but it is Magnificient!! Butt has traces of 2 or 3 small nails.

Another bulk storage horn, this is old, with some damage, but unique in that the butt is held with 23 bone or ivory plugs, with a furniture pull as the cord holder. It is brass, and looks 17th century. Butt is 4 x 3 and 1/2 inches, overall length is about 19 inches. Spout hole is about 3/8 inch. Carving on the butt is not legible, probably a "V" so might be Virginia ...

A really unique horn, sort of a rum horn shape, but with the ends plugged with cork. One end is still in place, and is made of cork covered with tar. Has 3 iron pins and possibly a brass one. About 5 and 1/2 inches tall, tapering from a base of 2 and 3/4 inches to a top of 3 and 1/2 inches it is virtually covered with trees, birds, animals and people. This has been described to me as a possible 17th century salt or fire starting kit. The shory side of the curve would have had a leather strap. The open end would have had another tar covered cork plug. Probably from the Caribbean islands ... Tortuga, Barbadoes ... who knows. Repaired a bit, but still older than dirt. Gorgeous.
Price $ 800.00
