Well, if you have a rush light, you need rushes, and to make them you need a grisset, a shallow pan to hold fats or wax to dip your rushes in.
My grisset is about 16 inches long, and with the handle to about 14 inches . The idea was to warm the fat till barely liquid, then dip the rush in,let it soak a few seconds, then remove it. Shown with a few of my first attempts, about 12 inches long...not included.
  Grisset reproduction......$190.00

The humble rushlight...used for about 4000 years, shown in a 17 th - 18 th century early pinch typeholder. The base is about 3 1/2 square, with a total height of 8 inches. Rushes were the standard of lighting for most Poorer Europeans, used here in colonies amongst the poor. In the mid 1700s a pound of rushes, cut, dipped in fat and some wax , about 2 1/2 feet long cost 3 shillings and could provide light for an entire year....1600 rushes to the pound ! Each rush cost about 1 11 th of a farthing !
reproduced from many early originals,  The holder.... $35.00
12 inch rushes coming in limited quantities.
